From Aquatic Weed Wonderland to LEGO Paradise: Taming LEGOLAND Florida

The Problem

When LEGOLAND, one of Central Florida’s most popular attractions, purchased the old Cypress Gardens property in January 2010, it had been abandoned for a year. In addition to transforming the once beautiful gardens into a LEGO haven, the developers of LEGOLAND were also faced with gaining control over the aquatic weed infestation throughout much of the park.

We all know what our Florida yards look like after two weeks of not being mowed. Can you imagine one year? To tackle this problem, LEGOLAND called on the experts at Applied Aquatic Management to ensure the 13 acres of canals and lakefront would be in pristine condition for their October 2011 opening date.

Unrivaled Aquatic Weed Maintenance for Florida Golf Courses: Grasslands Golf & Country Club

The Problem

With the second-most acreage of water in the state of Florida, much of Lakeland faces extraordinary levels of phosphorus and aquatic nutrients -- making its aquatic environments a haven for weeds and algae. Understanding the challenges they face, Grasslands Golf & Country Club chose AAM to provide ongoing aquatic weed maintenance of their golf course ponds and mitigation areas.

When we started working with Grasslands over four years ago in 2009, the property had been maintained, but not effectively. Algae problems, overgrowth of grasses, emersed vegetation and both invasive and exotic species were documented.

The Solution

An area like Grasslands receives phenomenal amounts of storm water runoff. This increases already high nutrient and phosphate levels, making frequency of treatments key. We’re at Grasslands every Monday.

Why Working With Applied Aquatic Management Is So Satisfying: An Introspection

Have you ever wondered how you ended up where you are? Have you pondered the chain of events that contributed to your path and destination? I’ll admit that I have always spent a great deal of time considering such things.

Early years

Though having lived over half a century, my residences have been few, all within a couple miles from each other. I can count every vehicle I’ve ever owned on one hand, and my airboat has not changed since 1972. I married my high school sweetheart and have had one job. I am proud to say that for over thirty years I have been employed at Applied Aquatic Management.
